about

This song was inspired by the events of the past 12 to 18 months involving police brutality, criminalization of black males and the varying opinions on the subject as it relates to race relations. The media portrayal of people of colour has in a way tainted our perceptions in many circumstances and situations. I approached this song from the vantage point of an observer (first verse) and that of a concerned parent (second verse). Check this out and see where I'm coming from. This is the way I see things from my vantage point. There is plenty of blame to go around. The first step in achieving any sort of resolution is to first acknowledge that there is a problem, then uniting as a people (regardless of skin colour) to find productive ways to move forward. There is NOTHING more counterproductive than having your problems and concerns dismissed as trivial or irrelevant. This is the core message in this one. Enjoy!

lyrics

Fact remains

Verse 1:
1. This is a black thing...this is a white thing..
2. A fact of life thing...the wrath's been ignited
3. (It's) more challenging to unite once the hatred has been invited
4. Emotions through out the nation have been so heightened
5. The plight is the denial on the state of our race relations
6. Reality hard to face like black faces upon on the pavement
7. The story beyond ancient, many scars on dark faces
8. Funeral procession tunes fuels hearts full of hatred
9. ...Too common place now the fouls are beyond flagrant
10. Regardless who plays God, why's one perceived as more blatant?
11. Blacks and whites spar across social media pages
12. Blacks and whites brawling and calling each other racists
13. Back to black boards, chalk it up to wrong information
14. Attacks on black boys is a source of more meditation
15. When black on black wars are exploited by corporations
16. It's wack when blacks (are) on board with this horrible glorification
17. Self absorbed by the paper we fighting a war that's waging
18. By law enforcement that's patiently waiting for confrontation
19. Marshall law is the art of war and I ain't talking 'bout gaming
20. And being naive's insulting to our intelligence ain't it
21. The picture's very clear it's been systematically painted
22. Society's stroke of the brush got image of blacks tainted
23. I could delve in conspiracy theories to back my statements
24. And my response is refer to quote on quote black entertainment
25. Engrained... in young minds lies stained by false information
26. Using hiphop as a basis for promotion of hatred
27. ...Media stations thrive off the culture to make chips
28. Trapped in the matrix...call it the modern day slave ship
29. Innocence been stripped naked like a statutory rapist
30. The only case where perpetrators are treated like a plaintiff
31. Same shit different day peoples eyes have been awakened
32. Too real a time in history to be complacent

Hook:
1.The fact remains...that we are not the same
2. So...don't patronize me with equality claims
3. Can't be naive we should take a lot of the blame
4. Take some time to look at ourselves in the mirror for a change
5. The change begins with me and you we gotta break the chain
6. And...by chain, I mean shackles of the brain
7. ..We can't undo the wrongs done in the past
8. But we can try to make it right...is that too much to ask?

Verse 2:
1. 9mm's pop...we livin in this pop culture
2. Pop's the sound prop use to bolster
3. Ratings...so degrading to our social landscape
4. So much for complex life forms, man it's planet of the apes
5. With a mandate to be great...at the expense of our souls
6. We some zombies with our minds under control...we've been sold
7. By the powers that be, that black equals savage and bold
8. Justification used by crooked cops blasting their chrome
9. Blocks hot where the glocks pop...on the beat like a metronome
10. Cops popping off like it's population control
11. Props to...all the mom and poppas steady raising their own to prosper
12. This day and age hard to parent to raise em proper
13. Pressure from peers and multimedia flare
14. I'm that bubble wrap parent undeniably scared
15. I fell victim to the mongering of fear, cause I care
16. Looked back on child years recalled I stressed my moms
17. Then I heard an earful...now tables have turned now I'm fearful
18. A father looking in my boys' eyes got me tearful
19. At the possibilites future leaders' what I'm envisioning
20. Put them in positions to succeed is what my mission is
21. In my eyes skies are limitless, highs infinite
22. I'd be lying if I said I felt indifferent
23. Shivering in a world where reality's so cold it's blistering
24. From early age been giving em jewels to weather the wintering
25. (I) refuse to use my skin colour as a limiting crutch
26. I work hard, fight to the end strike with a finishing punch
27. See life will throw em curve balls but it's all in how they handle it
28. I'm trying to make a man of them, leading by example and...
29. Expanding on the ample opportunities I'm handing em
30. Opportunities the average kid'll take for granted man
31. The fact remains...I gotta get my kids hip to the game
32. Then I show em the tricks of the shade
